#AgSafety Leader – July 2017

TIM BRAUN
Dunvegan Gardens Ltd
“The challenge seemed a little overwhelming at first, but all the hard work has paid off.”

Tim Braun, the Manager of Dunvegan Gardens Ltd, is a true #AgSafetyLeader.

Nestled away in a quiet rural area just northwest of Fort St John is the family-owned Dunvegan Gardens Ltd. The greenhouse/nursery provides a wide variety of ornamental shrubs, trees, and other plants.

Over the past three years especially, Tim has been working diligently to ensure their operations are compliant with the applicable health and safety regulations and the Dunvegan Garden owners have developed and implemented a formal safety program through Tim’s leadership and commitment. The challenge seemed a little overwhelming at first, but all the hard work has paid off.

Tim has scheduled or coordinated various training sessions through AgSafeBC. As a result, mobile equipment inspections have become routine, safety training is scheduled on a regular basis, and protective guarding has been updated on equipment.

Tim was also instrumental in the design of a very practical fall prevention system for a mezzanine, and under Tim’s direction, a scissor lift was purchased to limit ladder usage in the greenhouse. Essentially, safety has become a core part of the operations.

Tim is also working hard to ensure their family business is ready for certification under COR; some examples of programs already implemented include:
First Aid and Emergency Response Plans, Risk Management, Lockout and Respiratory Protection.
