#AgSafety Leader – September 2017

WES PENNY
Douglas Lake Ranch
“Wes has been key in ensuring that all components of the safety program make it into the hands of all employees”

Wes is a great asset to the health and safety efforts undertaken by the Douglas Lake Cattle Company – “Canada’s Largest Working Cattle Ranch”.

Wes approaches his role as the health and safety coordinator with zeal. His life experience enables him to contribute with determined leadership in this pivotal role.

Wes is responsible for not only developing and implementing the safety program for the ranching activities of the Douglas Lake Ranch, but also programs for the recreation and hotel divisions.

There are many challenges when advancing or developing a safety program. Perhaps most challenging has been ensuring that relevant elements of the program have reached all corners of Douglas Lake Ranch’s half million-acre operation.

Wes has been key in ensuring that all components of the safety program make it into the hands of all employees, as well as, creatively modifying each element of the program upon employee feedback. This has resulted in a dynamic, constantly evolving safety program – reflective of the true nature and intent of what a health and safety program should be.

Wes has also recently registered Douglas Lake Ranch for the Certificate of Recognition (COR) program, further illustrating his commitment to helping develop a safe workplace for all Douglas Lake Ranch employees.
