Spring has sprung! Growers, suppliers and landscapers around B.C. have dusted off the tools and equipment and are picking up speed as the days get longer and the sun shines brighter. Before you get too far into the season, take a few minutes to reassess and evaluate the state of your safety program.

Did you get some new tools? Ensure you have the owner’s manual and are familiar with the specific application for any new features. Safe work practices for many industry tools can be found here. Printing and reviewing this information with every worker who will be using the tools is critical to ensure your workers use them properly and safely.

Speaking of workers… if you have new workers or your regular workers are back after the winter, safety orientation is required. Use this checklist to form the basis for your safety orientation. Don’t forget the personal protective equipment (PPE) – we can help with fit-testing as part of your respirator program. Don’t have one? Let us set it up for you.

If you’re an AgSafe member we can help you satisfy all requirements of the WorkSafeBC Regulations. If you’re not an AgSafe member, click here for Landscaping & Garden Centre Registration. We can take most of the challenge of meeting the requirements out of your hands.

In no time at all, you will have met all the regulatory requirements and will be ready for COR Certification giving you the option to bid on municipal and BC Hydro jobs.
