#AgSafety Leader – March 2016

JANE MILBURN
Milburn Farm
“Jane’s influence, determination and generous donation of time resulted in many training sessions… [she] is truly a champion for agriculture and a delight to have as a face of farm safety”

Jane and her husband Bob live in the Barrier area, operating a small cattle ranch. She initially contacted Reg Steward, the Provincial Ranch Safety Consultant for AgSafe in 2002 to assist at the Barrier Fall Fair. Unable to attend, Jane received safety material from AgSafe to hand out while manning a health and safety booth for the fair.

She realized that her position was NOT to provide consultation, advice or direction to farmers and ranchers therefore she included Reg’s business cards with her handouts. Since 2002 this has resulted in numerous calls for service and AgSafe training at farms and ranches in the North Okanagan and Kamloops areas. Increased advancement was made in many area sectors and upon numerous ranches and farms as a result of her initial contact with producers at the fair.

Jane has served at the fair tirelessly since 2002 and has never missed a year. She faithfully directs people interested to contact the consultants while she hands out booklets, stickers and materials on behalf of AgSafe. She is a selfless volunteer! Throughout the year she continues to promote farm safety in all other conversations and venues. Jane is constantly reminding people to work safely on the farm, encouraging 4H youth and connecting producers with AgSafe for more help and information.

Supported by her husband, Jane learned of the opportunity to host a tractor safety training session in her area, which she is undertaking and is determined to secure the course for the area, late spring. She has also met with Chad Stewart, the North Okanagan regional consultant and is pleased to help continue what she does with the Provincial Ranching Consultant.

Jane’s influence, determination and generous donation of time resulted in many training sessions through the connections she initiated. Low stress cattle handling, safe horse handling, risk management and many other sessions were held in the surrounding area as a result of her faithful, selfless service. Jane is truly a champion for agriculture and a delight to have as a face of farm safety. Join us in supporting the tireless work Jane does for BC Ag Safety!
