Board of Directors

AgSafe's Board of Directors is comprised of five industry representatives and a non-affiliated chairperson.

AgSafe's Executive Director and representatives from the Prevention Services Division (OHS Consultation and Education Services) of WorkSafeBC participate in meetings on a consultative, non-voting basis.

David Nguyen | 2021-2023
David Nguyen is currently the Director of Health, Safety and Environmental for Champs Fresh Farms. David worked as a safety advisor for AgSafe (when it was known as FARSHA) from 2009 to 2018. He holds his CRSP designation awarded by the Board of Canadian Safety Professionals, and his background includes an Occupational Health and Safety Diploma from the British Columbia Institute of Technology. Prior to working for AgSafe, David was a Health and Safety Coordinator in the food processing industry. David participated on the Transition Board for AgSafe and is serving a 2-year term on AgSafe's Board of Directors, and has been elected to the Board Chair position in 2022.

Andrea van Iterson | 2021-2023
Andrea van Iterson and her family own and operate Westwold Farms Ltd. in the Interior of BC, where they background 2,500 head annually. Andrea also works as the Executive Director for the B.C. Association of Cattle Feeders (BCACF) and participates with the National Cattle Feeders’ Association. She is a current Cattlemen’s Young Leaders participant and the B.C. Delegate for the Young Cattlemen’s Council. Andrea participated on the Transition Board for AgSafe. She is serving a 2-year term as one of four AgSafe Members

Krista Harris | 2022-2024
Krista Harris an owner of B Jack Farms, a family-run egg farm in their fourth year of production. Krista has been a firefighter for 18 years, so she is familiar with the importance of safety in a variety of situations. She has been involved in Accident Investigations and helped to raise awareness of and promote Mental Health with the fire fighters. Krista will be a new Director and is serving a 2-year term as one of four AgSafe Members.

Hugo Velazquez | 2022-2024
Hugo is currently the Senior Manager of Community Outreach, Advocacy and Migrant Worker Programs at MOSAIC. He is a Human Rights lawyer certified in Mexico, with a Master in Asia Pacific Studies at The Australian National University. Working as a Mexican diplomat in Vancouver, Hugo was responsible for overviewing the well-being of the more than 6,000 migrant agricultural workers who come to British Columbia each year. In a previous capacity, he led a team that designed and implemented the National Disability Rights Program in accordance with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities as part of the National Human Rights Commission (Mexico). Hugo is serving a 2-year term as the Board’s Worker Representative (MOSAIC BC).

Paula Baxter | 2021-2023
Paula Baxter is a new owner of Exemplar Horticulture in Abbotsford. She has been in the field of agriculture for 25 years and is passionate about Health and Safety. Paula achieved a 99% score for her audit on the Certificate of Recognition (COR) for safety at her previous nursery. Paula sits on the Technical Advisory Committee for the COR program. When Paula is not busy writing up Safe Work Procedures for her nursery, you can find her training for a triathlon. Paula is serving a 2-year term.

Ajay Randhawa | 2021-2023
Ajay Randhawa has been in the greenhouse business since he was a child, and now helps run the family’s Randhawa Farms. Despite being a young farmer, he has done it all, from picking, packing and driving to managing all of the greenhouse operations. Ajay is interested in using data for positive change in agricultural safety, and is especially interested in mental health and addressing bullying and harassment. Ajay is serving a 2-year term as AgSafe’s “Young Farmer/Greenhouse Member” Director.

Jennifer Ross | 2022-2024
Jennifer Ross is the Quality Assurance Coordinator at Driediger Farms, overseeing Health and Safety issues from a staff perspective. She focuses on providing her team with a safe environment where they also feel valued and appreciated for their contributions. A former rugby player, Jennifer Ross has previously been a board member with BC Rugby and the Fraser Valley Rugby Association. Jen is serving a 2- year term as the Board’s “Agriculture/Safety Interest” Director.
