My AgSafeBC Story: Wendy Bennett

"Everyone deserves to go home at the end of the day in the same or better condition than when they arrived at the start of the work day."
Wendy Bennett

In taking on the role of Executive Director when Bruce Johnson retired, I knew I had very big shoes to fill. After 4½ years in this position, I continue to realize regularly how big those shoes are. Bruce took the vision and the mission of the organization and built it to be a relevant and valuable resource to agriculture throughout the province. He built a team. The team in place has changed very little over the years. I am honoured and privileged to work with these amazing people every day.

With new leadership, we rebranded and AgSafe was born. Our team expanded to allow us to continue offering current, relevant information and to keep pace with the initiatives of WorkSafeBC throughout the province. AgSafe is a regular referral by WorkSafeBC safety officers to assist employers with compliance needs. This means we need to be on top of what they are looking for to ensure we can provide our members with the right tools at the right time.

In my five years with AgSafe, I have learned so much from so many. I don’t come from agriculture and I appreciate all the time each person has spent helping me to understand and appreciate where my food comes from. I am excited to share the information with others and show how proud I am personally of BC Agriculture.

It is my hope and intent to have AgSafe continue for the next 25 years to offer health and safety information and support to agriculture producers around BC. Everyone deserves to go home at the end of the day in the same or better condition than when they arrived at the start of the work day. My goal is to have everyone involved in agriculture in BC go home safely at the end of every day. My team shares that goal and we look forward to continuing to work with you to realize it.
